Native Americans
I am fascinated by the culture of native Americans and stimulated particularly by their philosophy. For instance, the constant notion of being humble and grateful. Through my paintings I investigate the matriarchical basis of their culture, their deep sense of respect for mother earth, all very different from our European values of the same time period. According to the native Indian pilosophy the 'natural world' cannot be seen by the plain eye alone or by technology, but can only be experienced directly and intuitively. Also, man is understood as intrinsic part of nature and his health a matter of managing balance. Each human being has an immeasurable inner life which powerfully influences well-being, so does the natural world, including the invisible yet compelling forces, which all must be addressed and integrated for balance to be achieved.
